View From Below: A Thank You + What's Next !!

Posted by JackAstral - July 30th, 2020

Hi again Newgrounds !!!

As you may know, I made really terrible visual novel games here for several years - including Dead Detention, Alula Falling, and lots more. But just over 2 months ago, I released my first * real * game, View From Below.

It's a story-driven turn-based RPG inspired by games like Undertale and Earthbound, and movies like Donnie Darko (and anime in general, as always). In it, you play as a struggling high school student who is captured by a mysterious presence, and taken to a scary new world. You'll fight demons, solve puzzles, and unravel several dark mysteries, on your quest to escape it.

Available now! -> https://store.steampowered.com/app/1208760/View_From_Below/

I also wanted to take a moment during these strange times to thank everyone that has played and supported View From Below so far ! All of your suggestions have really helped it to grow and improve, and I'm so proud of where it is today. Since launch 2 months ago, I've added tonnes of new content, fixed some glitches and taken on lots of feedback to help make the game the best it possibly can be.

With patch 2.0 - which just released - I've really added in my last ideas for the project. It's breaming with content now, from side quests, to mini games, to secrets, and much more. I really can't put into words how good it feels to finally have something out that I'm truly proud of.

And so what's next for me and my tiny little game? Mainly I'll be focusing on getting it in front of as many people as I can. But also.... yes, I've begun early stages on my next project, and you'll be seeing ( and playing ) it much sooner than you may think.

This has been a really dramatic, awful year, so it felt really strange to release my game and expect people to care when so much more important things are going on. But maybe a game about hope and kindness wasn't such a bad thing to release in 2020.

Please stay safe out there. You'll be seeing more from me soon.

Jack.

Sounds like it's gonna be a pretty fun game!
but also
"I made really terrible visual novel games"
I dunno, I thought they were pretty fun-

LOL thanks!!

I'd like to upload a HTML5 export of a demo to newgrounds at some point, but it's a bit tricky getting it working :(

You did it mate!

New Project!!!???
Can't Wait!!!
View From Below was epic and exceeded my expectations!!! (Also your visual novels were amazing there was nothing terrible about them! )
Keep up the good work dude!!!

Thanks so much! Really glad you liked it. My next project kinda continues in that direction but even more developed and awesome, I'm really excited about it!

Well alright then, I suppose I'll have to play through it again to see what new content lies within version 2.0, glad to hear you aren't finished yet.

Also, I always kind of liked your older works. Sure, the quality wasn't great, but the rate at which I kept noticing content from you over the months eventually got me from ignoring them to clicking on one to see what was going on. Once I played more one I wondered how the rest were and then I got quickly invested in what the .08 universe held.

Thanks!

I'm not necessary super proud of my old visual novel stuff honestly, but I do think there's some cool ideas and stories in them. I totally respect and understand why people liked them so much, I'm just being a bit self deprecating I guess :P

With my full "real" games, I really want to take those good ideas and develop them in a more polished way- that's the big goal for my next project. It's close in tone to stuff like Dead Detention ( really fast paced and crazy, but kinda heartfelt) but just way more polished and refined ! Super excited for people to play it ( soon ;-) )
