Very dumb, terrible games meant to emulate early 2000s Newgrounds games. I'm finally working on something that is actually good though...follow me on twitter to see it !!! twitter.com/jackastral

Hey guyssss, I just wanted to quickly get in a Pico Day post

This website is awesome. I always use to visit as a kid, but I never dreamed I'd ever actually be a semi-popular content creator on here...

The Newgrounds community continually inspires me. Even after I finish university and become a proper adult with responsibilities and all that, I think I'll always create content here. I just love expressing myself in unique ways I couldn't do anywhere else- that's something truly unique to Newgrounds

I think that's what this place is really - a collection of artists. Some young, some old. Some light, others not so much. The thing that binds us, I think, is our desire to create, even if we suck at first

My favourite content creators here are Yotam and RaziBerry. Their content is so funny, but they always have layers of depth and insight. That's something I really aspire to do

And the whole audio portal. Your music is all so beautiful and creative...that's a skill I really admire.

This is probs a good opportunity to quickly thank everyone who continues to check out my thingies. I've evolved a lot since I started, I make stuff now that, while not as polished, is way more "me." Goofy, but sad sometimes. Crazy, but maybe a little tiny bit introspective and thoughtful. I think making this kind of stuff is important, rather than just throw away tower defences and stuff like that you see on other websites

I don't think Newgrounds will ever go away. People play stuff here, I think, for the same reason that people watch videos on YouTube. They get a sense of the creator, and get to experience more raw ideas that might not otherwise exist

Thank you to Newgrounds, thank you to my fellow creators, and thank you to you reading this; for giving us an audience to make our weird shit

Anyway. Back to making meme-grade content

Happy Pico Day!

-Jack

Sooooo everything's a bit of a mess right now. I have a lot of people asking me when the next episodes will be coming out, whether certain series were cancelled, ect.

So here's the low-down;

My Next Projects; (Probably in this order...but I'm not 100% sure yet)

  • -Alula Falling 5
  • -Dead Detention 2; Episode 7
  • -Dead Detention 2; Episode 8

Dead Detention 2

  • The series will be 10 episodes long, followed by a Halloween special.
  • The story is the first I've really planned out ahead of time, so all these little details will all build and create, I think, a very satisfying, cohesive ending.
  • I've already gone back and updated some episodes to improve continuity, as well as make everything clearer. I think I kind of screwed up episode 1 by including too much plot explanation, so I've made updates to that, and probably will be doing more shortly
  • There might be an After Story episode, depending on if people want it. If there is one, it'll focus on....well...certain character's lives after graduation. It'll be sombre and slow, like season 1's.

Alula Falling

  • I might be splitting the finale into two parts, depending on how many planned scenes I decide to cut out. I'm really big on wanting the finales of my series to have extremely fast pacing, ala the Chaos Girl and Dead Detention 1 finales, soooo I don't want to slow things down too much to develop characters.
  • It's taking a little longer to create than other episodes, because I want to make sure that it comes out really cool. The ending I have planned, I think, people will really, really appreciate. There is one element players might get mad at me for, BUT I want to take that risk. I feel like it'll really build up on the themes in earlier episodes, and make the plot feel very tight and more intricately woven...kinda like a loop...or cycle...or...well, I don't want to spoil it
  • Due to popular demand, I'll be increasing the difficulty of the battles in the finale. They'll be more like the "puzzles" that were in episodes 2 and 3.
  • Once all 5 episodes are finished, I'll be going back and updating them to improve continuity, as well as make some other little improvements. (I've already updated the art style in episode 1 a little by replacing textures with shades of grey)

Chronicle Bulletin

  • Because Chronicle Bulletin isn't as popular as my other projects, I've decided to shift focus from it. Howeverrrr, the final 3 episodes in that story will be released eventually. I'm aiming to have episode 6 of the series, the finale, come out on Halloween...so that's a rough idea of when you can expect new content from that series.
  • The last 3 episodes will basically be a 3-part story arc that builds to the last episode. I think I screwed up the first 3 episodes by having them be separate stories, rather than having them completely serialised.

Once Dead Detention; Season 2 and Alula Falling are both finished, I'll be starting a new series called...well...I haven't settled on a name just yet. But I can say that it'll be horror-themed, and the art style looks as though someone doodled with water colours...it's weird, but....kinda cool. Maybe. I don't know. I'll be putting all my creative energy into it, so I think it'll be the best series I've made so far.

I have two assignments due this week; soooo maybe don't expect anything new until, like, next week.

Thanks!

-Jack

Oh, and play my new little story game "The Shovel" over here -> http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/673706

Hey! So! Alula 4 is coming very soon- I've just been pretty busy with uni work lately. (I've had 3 assignments due in the past week!)

That being said, I have a week off now, so I'll be able to focus on working on it. Episode 4 is basically a big set up for the finale - these final two episodes will kinda bring everything together and reveal what's really going on. (*cough* clear moon *cough*) The canon ending I have planned for the finale is pretty cool andddd explains the title of the series...I think people will really like it.

In the meantime, you can check out a super quick teaser I put together- featuring a sequence from the episode. Check it out !  > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBXGuPpNfDk

(It's really just a couple of motion tweens set to emotional music....but you get the idea!)

Anyway. Happy Easter if you're into that kinda thing... !

Until nexttttttttttttt time,

Jack.

PS. After Alula Falling, I'll be starting a new series called "In Dreams" - it'll be my best one yet, I think. News on that soon !

I really think that this year I'll start making some pretty cool stuff- I've learned a lot in the past couple of months. I'm really going to push myself to greatly step up the quality of my projects. I have one series in particular that I'm excited to start, though I haven't settled on a title for it yet. (I might start posting some bits and pieces from it on my twitter soon-ish!)

Thanks!

Oh, and Chronicle Bulletin 3 will be up in a day or two! There's a lot of new microgame types, so it feels much less stale than episode 2 maybe did. It's ending is reallyyyyy weird and goofy, but I think the episode as a whole has come out pretty cool. (And thennnnnn I'll start working on Alula Falling 3 and Dead Detention 2- Episode 4!)

-Jack

Next Projects:

  • Chronicle Bulletin 3
  • Alula Falling 3
  • Dead Detention 2; Episode 4

Future Projects:

  • A new trilogy that acts as a true sequel to Chaos Girl
  • A new episodic series about purgatory
  • My selftitled project (I'm really excited to create this....it's going to be really weird and all over the place...very me :b)

What a strange year. Visual Novels. Pretentious artsy stuff. A farming...thing....

Obviously I'm not the best programmer, or artist, or whatever, but I like to think that there's something unique about me.

I think at the veryyyyyyyy least I have the potential to make some cool shit. To most people I probably haven't proven that I'm capable of that, yet.

Fulfilling the potential I know, or at least think, that I have will really be my biggest goal of 2016.

I can do better, and I will do better.

More cool stuff, and less bad.

Withhhhhhhhhhhh all that being said.....

Goals for 2016:

  • Reach 2,000 NG fans
  • Get at least 10k NG views, on each project that I create.
  • Start creating stuff that is way more polished, and that has reached it's full potential. No more pushing incomplete, or rushed, projects.
  • Upload 2 episodic games a month
  • Upload 3 or 4 "art" games over the year
  • Have a stronger focus on story structure and visual quality
  • Complete all 3 of my current episodic series, as well as start one or two new ones
  • Don't completely suck

Projects Coming in 2016:

  • A new trilogy similar to Chaos Girl
  • A new story platformer called View From Below
  • New eps of Dead Detention 2, Alula Falling and Chronicle Bulletin
  • A selftitled, weird, truely experimental game. It'll kinda be like Wario Ware on acid.

As far as me as a human being person thing goes, I'm pretty okay.

I recently decided to change uni degrees from computer engineering to graphic design. It took me two years to realize databases and data structures didn't excite me very much lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

I saw Star Wars 7 at the midnight release, and I loved it! (I only cried a little tiny bit.) I've rewatched the originals almost every year, since I first saw them as a child. They're amazing, and one of my biggest inspirations. The prequels....well....not so much. *shudder*

I turn 20 in January...I'm going to miss being a teenager. I'm going to miss the bands, the shows, the philosophical nonsense, and the like.

But I guess paying taxes and working for some lame company I don't care about will be fun, too.

Happy New Year.

Soooooooooo a few days ago I kicked off my new series Chronicle Bulletin! The episodic, visual novel-y series is about a paranormal research club at a highschool- and the trouble they get into on a weekly basis. What's kinda cool about the series is that it's set in the same universe as two of my previous series- Dead Detention and Chaos Girl. Because of this, diffferent characters, locations and events will bleed into each other.

2872401_144540546272_promoshot.png

The idea behind Chronicle Bulletin is to basically take everything people liked about Dead Detention and expand on it, while throwing out the stuff that didn't really work. It's pretty much a muchhhhhh needed breath of fresh air.

I'm hoping to make the series around 6 episodes along- but that will really come down to the reception...hopefully people like it :S

Make sure to check out the first episode here: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/664917

You can also follow my newgrounds account so you don't miss an ep over here: http://08jackt.newgrounds.com/follow

Anddddddddd you can read some more about the idea and plan behind the series over on my blog here: www.boxrocketgames.com/blog.html

Thanks for reading + playing!

(Update 17/07/2015)

NOTE : ROLE HAS BEEN CAST. Thanks to everyone who auditioned / showed interest!

______________

Bored? Have a microphone that is at least kinda decent quality?! Want a cool little NG credit for a game that is kinda pretty okay-ish good-hopefully-maybe?

GREAT

I'm working on a little project right now that requires narration. The script is just an inner mologue, and only about 400 words- though I should say that I need the audio by Sunday this week at the very latest....if possible.

I understand that's a pretty tall order, so please PM anyway if you're interested, but just can't make the deadline.

The gender doesn't really matter, but the voice needs to be emotional, serious, kinda sad and a tiny, tiny bit shaky.

If you're interested please PM me with a voice reel or just a clip of you talking in a voice kinda like I described above (preferably on NG) and I'll send you over the script!

Thanks!

If you're wondering, the game is a platformer, though the writing/narration is in a similar kinda vein to a game I made last month called Alone in the Comsos (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/659025).

New game thing! It's a super light, easy tower defence! It has dubstep! And space! And poorly drawn enemies! Cool!

Play it over here > http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/653881

PS. It had a few bugs and errors when I first uploaded it, but it's all working now. (I think :b)

So earlier today I was added to a spam submission as a 'contributor.' I have no idea what it was, or why it appeared on my newgrounds profile. It was full on listed on my games page and everything. I think it was some .swf ripped off the internet and re-uploaded. The uploader must have added me as project member with out me realising. Strangeeeeeeeeee.

It was only up for a few minutes before being blammed- but sozzles if you saw that in your news feed thinking it was a new project by me.

Anyway. I just wanted to quickly clear that up.

Jack.
