Hi ! I'm really excited to share that Dead Detention Rescribbled #1 is now finished - and #2 is almost done too! (You can read the announcement here if you missed it.)

So here's a little preview of them belowww:

They're hugeeeeee improvements over the originals - with way better art, microgames, jokes, writing, etc etc. while still retaining that hyper, scribbley style they're known for :-) The plot's a little bit more complex and interesting now too - with some really cool scenes set at a laboratory that weren't in the originals...!

Episode 1 will be up on Newgrounds in early May (just need to get the hml5 build working nicely), with the other 4 coming hopefully monthly or bimonthly.

Once all 5 episodes + the After Story are finished, I’ll be combining it all into a big, complete collection on itch.io and Steam for Halloween. (With some added stuff like steam achievements, gamepad support, etc.) But that’s a while away….

I'll probably start posting stuff more often over on my twitter if you want to follow the development more closely...

But that's all for now!

tldr; Episode 1 is finished and will be up veryyyyyyy soon,

Jack :)

PS. You can also play a demo of my upcoming RPG "FAYE FALLING" here if you missed it!

Sooooooooooooooooooo; alongside finishing up my indie RPG Faye Falling, I've also been working on a Dead Detention remake. AND Episode 1 is nearly finished! LOOK:

It's been really fun to go back to that story and those characters; something I came up with around 9 years ago now! I always tried to make each episode of the original flash games in under 3 hours; I guess it was kinda the gimmick to make everything look as awful as possible LOL. So it's been cool to actually put a lot of work and polish into this version, while still retaining the original scribbly, crappy South Park inspired look.

The characters and story are basically the same - but it also combines in some elements of the old bonus episodes + some little bits and pieces of the html5 reboot Blue Lights. It'll also have 3 endings based on little choices you make throughout each episode.

Episode 1 will be up on Newgrounds within the next couple weeks, with a little teaser trailer a bit before. As long as people like it, I'll remake the other 4 + the After Story too! :) And maybe combine them all with extras for a full release? We'll see.....

But either way, it's just been really fun to make at least this episode. And that was the only reason I made so many of the flash games; it was low-stakes, stupid fun. I still can't believe they got as popular as they did.

Anyway. Seeya soon ! ;-0

-Jack

PS. I also unprivated all the old episodes and series. Enjoy them in all their crappiness!! ;-D

Hi! I finally have some news; a free demo for my upcoming RPG "Faye Falling" is out now on Steam! You can play it here!

FAYE FALLING is an emotional turn-based RPG. You play as a recently passed lost spirit, unable to recall who they are, or how they died. After a chance encounter with a powerful entity, you begin an epic journey to defeat a growing darkness, and recover your memories along the way.

The full game will be out within the next couple months :)

I want to attempt a html5 port of the demo so I can get it up here on Newgrounds - I'll write another post if I can manage it :P

The full game will be out later this year on Steam - very, very soon! All in all, the game ended up taking just over 2 years to make. Crazy to think my original goal was late 2022 - that feels so long ago now. I actually have 2 other big projects I've been working on alongside Faye (hence the 4 year gap instead of 2), so there will be almost no gap between Faye and my next release thank god lol

Thanks for playing + reading,

-Jack

Heyyyyyyy newgrounds. I've finally revealed my next game - Faye Falling. It'll be out this year on Steam!

You awaken in a decaying world, with no memories of how you got there. After a chance encounter with a powerful entity, you begin an epic journey to defeat an army of dark spirits, and corrupt gods.

Explore purgatory as you discover who you are and how you died, in this heartfelt RPG.

You can wishlist it now on Steam!

I also wanna give a really big thank you to everyone that checks out my games - I appreciate it so, so much. I really wouldn't have made all this stuff without you :)

I'm gonna try upload one or two smaller games to Newgrounds this year- especially because I've grown so much as a programmer and game designer recently. (Keep an eye out!)

Stay safe out there, ok?

Jack.

Hey Newgrounds!

My story-driven, turn-based, heartfelt RPG "View From Below" just received another big update (5.0).

In the game, you play as a struggling high school student who is captured by a mysterious presence, and taken to a scary new world. You'll fight demons, solve puzzles, and unravel several dark mysteries, on your quest to escape it. (It's inspired by games like Undertale and Earthbound, and movies like Donnie Darko!)

Here's some gameplay of the battle system:

I also wanted to mention that development for my next game is going really well. I've mainly been focused on programming and the script, so I can't really show anything exciting like screenshots or gameplay just yet. (But it's really good so far I think!) For that game, I'm planning to release a short beta/demo on itch.io (and hopefully Newgrounds in HTML5 form if I can get it working nicely) so the wait won't be too long.

That's all for now! Stay safe out there,

Jack

Hi again!

So earlier this year I released my first *real* game on Steam - a turn-based, story-driven RPG called "View From Below." ( Get it now! -> https://store.steampowered.com/app/1208760/View_From_Below/)

Since then, I've been updating it TONNES fixing things, and taking on feedback to make it the best game it possibly can be. (Including bug fixes, new content, QoL changes, LOTS of typos because I accidentally had the draft text files imported iwanttodie, and more !)

This is a neat little compilation I made of old screenshots and clips from the development of it, spanning its start in 2017, to its launch in May 2020. (It looked like complete ass until like late 2019, lol!) Check it out:

I also wanted to mention that my next game is coming along really well, and really fast. It's basically a sequel to VFB in terms of gameplay, but with an entirely new story. It's really cool so far - I'm going to start posting screenshots from it next month on my twitter.

That's all for now. I hope you're all coping well during this whole deadly pandemic thing,

-Jack

Hi again Newgrounds !!!

As you may know, I made really terrible visual novel games here for several years - including Dead Detention, Alula Falling, and lots more. But just over 2 months ago, I released my first * real * game, View From Below.

It's a story-driven turn-based RPG inspired by games like Undertale and Earthbound, and movies like Donnie Darko (and anime in general, as always). In it, you play as a struggling high school student who is captured by a mysterious presence, and taken to a scary new world. You'll fight demons, solve puzzles, and unravel several dark mysteries, on your quest to escape it.

Available now! -> https://store.steampowered.com/app/1208760/View_From_Below/

I also wanted to take a moment during these strange times to thank everyone that has played and supported View From Below so far ! All of your suggestions have really helped it to grow and improve, and I'm so proud of where it is today. Since launch 2 months ago, I've added tonnes of new content, fixed some glitches and taken on lots of feedback to help make the game the best it possibly can be.

With patch 2.0 - which just released - I've really added in my last ideas for the project. It's breaming with content now, from side quests, to mini games, to secrets, and much more. I really can't put into words how good it feels to finally have something out that I'm truly proud of.

And so what's next for me and my tiny little game? Mainly I'll be focusing on getting it in front of as many people as I can. But also.... yes, I've begun early stages on my next project, and you'll be seeing ( and playing ) it much sooner than you may think.

This has been a really dramatic, awful year, so it felt really strange to release my game and expect people to care when so much more important things are going on. But maybe a game about hope and kindness wasn't such a bad thing to release in 2020.

Please stay safe out there. You'll be seeing more from me soon.

Jack.

HI NEWGROUNDS !!!!

I FINALLY just released my first *real* game, "VIEW FROM BELOW" ! This has been a longggggg time coming.

If you liked my old visual novel stuff, I think you'll really like this. It takes a lot of those ideas / bits and pieces, and presents it all in a new ( and much better imo ) way !

It's a little emotional, a little funny, and a little dark. It means a lot to me, and I hope it'll mean a lot to you, too.

You can buy the game / see more about it on Steam ! - > https://store.steampowered.com/app/1208760/View_From_Below/

Thank you all so much for playing my games over the years. It all built up to this.

Hello Newgrounds! It's been a while, huh?

I've been working long and hard on my first real game – VIEW FROM BELOW - a story driven turn based RPG for the last 2.5-ish years.

It's weird, funny, dark, a little crazy...

And it has a lot to say.

iu_82339_2872401.png

I really feel like it's the game I'm meant to make.

The first trailer will be released within the next month or so, along with its Steam page for wishlisting. I'll do another post when that happens to remind everyone ( please care!!!.)

iu_82340_2872401.png

VIEW FROM BELOW will be out within the first half of this year. I'm so excited for people to finally play it.

I think if you liked any of my old ( crappy ) newgrounds games, I think you'll really like this. It's fresh and new, but it has all of the elements I think people liked about those old projects. It's just more refined and...good?

iu_83872_2872401.png

Getting to this point where I have an almost complete "proper-real" game has been strange. Mistakes were made. But I'm happy with where I am now, and what I have to show you all.

I hope you'll check it out, and I hope it'll mean a lot you, like it does to me.

iu_82342_2872401.jpg

You can follow these last few months of development over on my twitter if you're interested!

Happy New Year, and thank you for everything,

Jack
